The HomeRoom Privacy Promise

1. You Control Your Data

Most tools force your data into the cloud immediately. HomeRoom is local-first by design.

• Local-First & Encrypted: By default, your classroom data—including student names, rosters, Planner blueprints, and Tasks—is stored locally in your browser. We use industry-standard AES-GCM encryption to ensure your local data is protected from other users on the same device. If you don't sync to the cloud, that data NEVER touches our servers.
• Optional Cloud Sync: If you choose to create an account for cross-device access, your data is securely synced via Supabase. All cloud data is encrypted at rest and stored on secure servers located in Canada 🇨🇦.

2. We Don’t Sell Your Information

We are in the business of helping you manage your classroom, not selling your data.

• No Ads: You will never see a third-party ad on HomeRoom.
• No Data Mining: We don't sell your email, student lists, or usage habits to anyone. Your tasks and schedules are private to you.

3. Student Privacy (COPPA & Compliance)

HomeRoom is a tool for teachers. Because students do not log in, we do not knowingly collect information directly from children.

• The Teacher is the Gatekeeper: You control what you input. We recommend using first names, initials, or pseudonyms.
• School Policy: You are responsible for ensuring your use of HomeRoom complies with your district’s data privacy policies.

4. AI & Third-Party Processing

If you utilize HomeRoom’s AI enhancement features (for task generation, schedule optimization, or voice-to-text tools), we may process data through third-party providers (like Google Gemini). This is standard practice for all modern AI and transcription services.

• Data Minimization: We only send the minimum data required to provide the AI service.
• Opt-Out: These features are optional. If you don't use the AI tools, your data is never shared with these providers.

5. Secure Payments

• Direct Billing: We use Stripe for all upgrades. We never see or store your credit card data.
• Marketplace Purchases: Purchases via Etsy or TpT are handled entirely by those platforms.

6. Limitation of Liability ("As Is")

HomeRoom is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind.

7. Data Protection & Breach Protocol

In the unlikely event of a security breach that compromises your account data, we will notify you via email within 72 hours of discovery, in accordance with Canadian privacy regulations.

8. Jurisdiction

This policy is governed by the laws of Nova Scotia, Canada.
