Terms & Conditions

1. Definitions

• App: The HomeRoom web application, including widgets, Planner, and Tasks.
• HomeRoom: The service owned and operated by Jeff Hennigar (operating as HomeRoom), located in Nova Scotia, Canada.
• User: Any individual who accesses the App.
• License: A one-time purchase granting access to "Pro" features locally.
• Cloud Subscription: An annual fee for continued access to Cloud Sync services across devices.

2. Licensing & Tiers

1. Lite Tier: A free version for trial and evaluation. This tier does not save data locally or to the cloud. Any content created in this tier is temporary and will be lost upon refreshing the page or closing the browser.
2. Pro License (One-Time): A one-time purchase for one (1) teacher. This unlocks all software features (Planner, Tasks, expanded widgets) for local storage use only. You may use your account across multiple personal devices, but you are strictly prohibited from sharing your login credentials with others.
3. Cloud Sync (Annual Subscription): Grants the right to store and sync "Pro" data across devices via the HomeRoom cloud (Supabase).

3. Pricing & Payments

• Local Upgrades: One-time payment. All sales are final.
• Cloud Subscription: Billed annually. The annual fee for Cloud Sync may fluctuate or change without notice to reflect hosting costs and service improvements.
• Non-Payment: If a Cloud Subscription is not renewed, your data remains accessible on the last device used, but cloud syncing will be disabled. We will retain your cloud data for a grace period of 90 days before deletion.
• Marketplace Purchases: If purchased via Etsy or TpT, you must follow provided instructions to activate your Pro account. A license is considered "claimed" once linked to a verified email address.

4. Data & Privacy

• Local-First Risk: HomeRoom stores data in your browser's local storage by default. Clearing your cache, resetting your browser, or switching devices without Cloud Sync enabled will result in data loss. HomeRoom is not liable for data lost in this manner. It is the responsibility of the user to ensure they have their data backed up to avoid data loss.
• Ownership: You own all content you create. HomeRoom does not claim any rights to your classroom materials, student names, schedules, or custom backgrounds.
• Inactivity: Accounts inactive for one year will be flagged for deletion. We will send a reminder email 60 days before deleting any cloud-synced data.

5. Code of Conduct & Student Safety

• Student Privacy: You acknowledge that you are solely responsible for compliance with your school or district's student privacy policies. We strongly recommend using initials or first names only when creating rosters.
• Termination: We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the App immediately if you breach these Terms.

6. Liability & Warranty

• No Warranty: HomeRoom is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind.
• Limitation of Liability: Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for your license.

7. Intellectual Property

• HomeRoom Ownership: All source code, visual designs, custom icons, brand assets, and technical architecture are the exclusive property of HomeRoom.
• Restrictions: You are granted a license to use the App, not ownership of the underlying code. You are strictly prohibited from copying, modifying, redistributing, or reverse-engineering any part of the App’s source code.

8. Governing Law

• This policy is governed by the laws of Nova Scotia, Canada. Any disputes arising from the use of HomeRoom shall be resolved in the courts of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
